Menopause & Hair Loss

Women often experience hair loss during menopause due to the imbalance of hormones in their body. This condition can affect up to 50% of woman experiencing menopause. When women reach menopause the production of Estrogen slows, sometimes leading to an imbalance of excess male hormones (Testosterone) which results in hair loss.

HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is one way to offset the side effects of menopause. By raising estrogen levels, it can help reduce or prevent hair loss as testosterone is prevented from entering the hair root cells and converting to DHT (dihydrotestosterone).

However, HRT is not suitable for everyone and some women prefer not to use this treatment. If your hair is suffering during menopause, contact our Tricholoigsts for advice on how to reduce hair loss and encourage hair regrowth.
