alopecia areata

Alopecia Areata is visually distinctive with the rapid appearance of small circular patches on the scalp and in men’s facial hair, including beards. Sometimes these patches may grow in size and overlap, or they may remain small.

Alopecia Areata is a genetic auto-immune disorder which can be triggered by many varied factors, usually associated with stress.

TRACTION ALOPECIA

The trend of the "man bun" and "man braid" has seen a rise of Traction Alopecia due to the prolonged tension exerted to the hair.

The constant pulling of the hair over a sustained period of time can permanently damage the hair follicles and lead to hair loss.

Generally the hair line is affected causing hair loss around the front of the scalp and temples.

Consistently wearing hair styles that pull the hair tightly eg: ponytails, braids, buns, dreadlocks.

Causes of Alopecia Areata

Stress

Stress can be brought about by a shock, bereavement, an accident or illness. There is no related illness and seldom any other noticeable signs or symptoms with the onset of Alopecia Areata, although some men may notice a slight itching in a patch that is just starting to lose hair.

Solutions for Traction Alopecia

Change your hair style

Vary the way you wear your hair, leave it loose and hanging free when you can. When wearing a bun or ponytail make it looser and lower.

Maxanol Hair Stimulant

In the early stages of Traction Alopecia where the follicles are not damaged, Maxanol may be helpful in stimulating and strengthening the weakened follicles.

Consultation With A Trichologist

Consult with our Trichologists regarding hair regrowth in affected areas if you think you are suffering from Traction Areata.
